Most diners have their own favourite restaurants that they go to loyally once or twice each month and, sometimes more. I've ummed and ahhed about the title for this topic, not wanting to cause offence. So if I do, I don't mean to - the term "Chiefs and Indians" is a metaphor, not a culture statement, so bear with me, it will become clear.

In many, if not most, business cultures, we still have pretty much vertical structures of hierarchy. Yet there is value in moving right along from this ancient creaking model...

You start at the top with the best paid and end up with the humble worker at the bottom end. In larger organisations this can be eight, ten or more deep!

At the bottom you feel 'done to' at the top, you feel the 'doer' - a much more comfortable spot to be. Guess why!

Yet it need not be this way. Of course there are always going to levels of authority, but wise organisations can soften this with a level of democracy which enables even those at the very bottom of the chain, the 'indians' in the metaphor, to feel like 'chiefs', in how they input into the organisation.

You see, the distinction is almost all emotional. It's about control of your own circumstances - and those circumstances are controlled, not surprisingly, by the chiefs, especially in unenlightened organisations.

And control is such an emotive place to be and so uncomfortable if you have little or none and are almost totally 'done to'.

But what if an enlightened boss gave up some of the control, maybe even most of it, to those workers beneath. In fact by giving up much control, maybe they realise that control and input from the 'many' was better for all and would be a respected and valued (and valuable) place to go.

Bosses would become freer from day to day decisions, and their now co-workers, rather than 'slaves' would be more involved, more able to contribute with the richness of their own ideas and implementation skills. It would be radical, yet how valuable it would be, all round.

It doesn't take much on the micro-organisational level. In fact it takes but one step.

Ask your people what 'they think would work'. Get used to involving them in discussions and letting them have a free rein on the ideas and delivery, as long as the result is at least the one you need.

You might be surprised at how quickly they get the hang of it. In fact, you might be surprised at the results to your business, to your people and, not least, to you.

There is a deadly disease that has and still is sweeping nations across South East Asia. It's now beginning to be known as the Asian bird flu. So what is it and how does it affect people? Well the Asian bird flu is a virus that is spread by birds, hence the name bird flu. It's a type of influenza virus that can spread like wildfire when given the opportunity.

So you're wondering how Asian bird flu is contracted by humans if it's a strand of influenza that only affects birds? Well unfortunately, bird flu is like many other strands of influenza being that it has the potential to mutate into other strands when placed in the right environment. Recent Breakouts Of The Asian Bird Flu

The most recent breakouts have occurred in South East Asia and more particularly Indonesia, where many people died in a very short period of time. Luckily modern medicine is far more adept at treating influenza viruses these days. If the same breakout had have happened back at the beginning of the 20th century many more people would have died and its potential to spread across countries would have been greater. This of course did happen several times nearly 100 years ago and many people lost their lives.

What Can We To Prevent Something Like The Asian Bird Flu From Occurring

Well first of all measurements are being taken to prevent poultry from becoming infected in the first place. Poultry farms are usually the beginning of any outbreak. Why? Well, poultry like chicken and ducks sometimes become infected by wild birds who of course contain an antibody that protects them from the Asian bird flu. This of course doesn't mean they still can't carry the virus and when a bird kept in captivity comes in contact with a carrying wild bird, it then becomes infected. That bird then passes it onto the rest of the birds on the farm and before you know it, there's an epidemic.

If this happens, there is usually a mass culling of poultry to prevent any chance of Asian bird flu spreading any further. Unfortunately in many cases, infected chicken is sold to consumers and that's where it can become a problem for people. The virus has the potential to mutate into a disease that harmful for humans and that can also be spread from human to human.

Holiday in Asia, probably your flights are booked, guide books bought, and even the packing has started, you are almost ready for that well deserved few weeks, or even months holiday in Asia.

Staying at a one of those gorgeous Bali villas, or a beach side hut in Koh Samui, or even diving in Cebu?

What is probably outstanding is your Travel Money Strategy. No, I don�t mean how much money you expect to spend in Singapore versus Bangkok, but how are you going to have access to the right amount of money, in the right currency, at the right time and place. Of course, without having to carry it all on your person!

Here are some insider tips to money matters for those who will travel in Asia, beyond the metropolises like Singapore and Hong Kong.

Travelers Cheques

Whilst these are the regular staple for travels to Europe, in Asia, they are somewhat less convenient. As a rule of thumb, they are not as widely accepted in Asia (outside of larger cities), as they would be elsewhere in the world.

If you are taking any travelers cheques with you, plan to change these at bigger cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

Of course, the rate you will get for changing travelers cheques will be less than hard cash.

Also, once you are off the beaten track, expect people to look at you as if your are offering them Monopoly Money, when you put your travelers cheques forward.

ATMs/Cash Machines

These are increasingly available across Asia, and now a days have penetrated well beyond the big cities, into second/third tier cities, as well as most of the main Asian holiday resort destinations, such as the Bali Island, Phuket, and Langkawi.

Whilst in bigger cities, you will spot ATMs with ease, at many other destinations you will have to actually go looking for them. In Bali, for example, many cash machines are located at Circle K outlets (convenience store chain), or petrol/gas stations. In other more remote places, you will need to try your luck at the local mini-market and even the chemists!

However, ATMs are by far one of the most convenient ways of accessing cash easily in Asia, without having to carry huge amounts in person.

However, again, similar to travelers cheques, you will have to pay for the convenience/service in an incremental way. Banks and credit card companies will make money from you in two ways.

Firstly, because you are withdrawing at a foreign currency, there are exchange rates involved. For ATM withdrawals you will almost certainly end up getting a poorer exchange rate than if you were changing cash.

The second area of payment, is in the form of foreign currency withdrawal charge that will be imposed on your transaction. Given that this charge is often a flat fee, you are better off making fewer withdrawals of bigger amounts of money, than many withdrawals, each of which resulting in a separate charge.

Money Belts

There is no two ways about it, keeping your cash and valuables in a money belt is a safer way than carrying a big wallet, or a handbag which may be snatched with ease.

However, keep in mind that, unless you are traveling to Beijing or Seoul in the winter, your Asian travels will inevitably take you to hot tropical destinations.

As those who have had to carry money belts in the tropics will attest, they can very quickly become very uncomfortable (and wet!). Also, when at more humid environments, a money belt easily becomes very visible when perspiration sticks your clothing onto your body, or you remove your top for a swim. All of a sudden, what once was a discrete security measure becomes a bill-board advertising that you are carrying valuables on you, in the process pinpointing the location too!

So, as they say, horses-for-courses. You will need to decide on the best method of carrying your valuables depending on the environment. Or even better, if you feel like you are in a high risk situation, it is probably best to leave most of your valuables under the protection of a reputable hotel safety box.

Money Exchange

As a general rule of thumb, you will get a better exchange rate for your money at your Asian destination, than back home, regardless of where you change your money. Of course with the exception of larger international hotels, where the exchange rates on offer match the nightly room rates! So, it is well worth doing your homework before your leave home, and check the prevailing exchange rates for your currency, at some of the bigger banks� internet sites for your destination(s).

Once you are in Asia, the best and safest way of changing money is to visit one of the local banks. It is worth noting that, in Asia banking office hours will vary substantially from country to country. For example, in Bali, most banks will open at around 9 am, where as in Singapore, some bank branches will not open their doors till 11 am. If your need is time sensitive, it will pay to plan ahead the day before. The good news is, most banks in Asia will accept many different currencies, and often offer fair rates, and provide official receipts. (Of course, some currencies such as the US Dollar, the Euro, and the Japanese Yen, are more readily accepted by more banks than currencies from some other countries.)

If however, you wanted to squeeze a little more from your money, or you have no other choice, you may be tempted to use an Exchange Services/Kiosks, found throughout Asia. Typically, these should offer slightly better rates than banks.

If you are going to use this option, here are a few tips and tricks.

You will probably get a fair rate, and be treated fairly in cities like Singapore, where local laws and enforcement will help protect you.

However, in some other cities/resorts you do need to take care, and be on the guard.

In many countries, most of these exchange kiosks are no more authorised than the handwritten (or nowadays printed) authorization sign they carry!

Some are blatantly unscrupulous, and will successfully short change even the most worldly-wise of travelers.

If you decide to use an exchange kiosk, here are some best practice tips:

Never change money on your own - don�t be alarmed, in most places there is usually no risk involved to the individual, but you are better off with 2-3 pairs of eyes than just your own

Change small amounts at a time - reduces your exposure and their greed!

Agree on the rate, and the amount you are going to change before taking out your money - unless of course you want to see your real $100 bill change into a recently printed fake in front of your very eyes!

Count the money given to you, and then when you are finished - hand it over to your partner to count again. (You should never count at the same time together, as you need that 2nd pair of eyes to observe the transaction

If at any point you are in doubt - just smile and walk-away

In a Nut Shell

1 - Make a Travel Money Strategy before you leave home

2 - Ensure that you have sufficient funds/credit on your cards

3 - Do take some travelers cheques with you, just in case

4 - Take some cash with you, even if a small amount

5 - Decide where and how you want to use you money belt

6 - Do use reputable hotel safes

7 - When exchanging money, try to stick to official banks

8 - If changing money elsewhere, try to make sure there is more than just you overseeing the transaction

9 - Make sure you never loose sight of your money at exchange kiosks

10 - If you feel uncomfortable during a transaction, just smile and walk away

As they say, prevention is better than the cure. If you decide to use these tips, please also observe your environment, and apply common sense. Just don�t forget, in many of the Asian destinations you will be traveling to, what you pay for a hamburger or a Skinny-Late is probably almost equal to someone�s local wage. Always carry the minimum amount of money with you, and apply caution when at remote parts of the developing world.

Having said all this. Asia has been my second home for more than 20 years now, and I have taken many holidays in Asia. May be I have been lucky, but in these 20 years I have had the most wonderful time of my life, and never really been cheated changing money. Well, almost never, there was that time when I was a backpacker when�

Deep reds and golds inspire appetite and good conversation so what better way to decorate your dining room then with an Asian inspired theme!

Even if you don't have a professional designer you can get an Asian inspired look in your dining room by changing little things, for example adding a wallpaper border and coordinating your tableware and serving dishes to give an exotic Asian look to the room. Don't be timid to change things like your floor coverings, lighting, decorative accessories and wall color in conjunction with your table and chair set and sideboard.

Decorative items are key to pulling your Asian inspired look together. Even if you can't replace any other items - you can get a new look by changing the decorative accessories! Focus on shopping for tableware, serving dishes and table cloths and runners, in colors and patterns that match your Asian look. You'll be amazed at how easy and economical it is, and what a huge difference these changes make! You might want to include a rice paper folding screen or Shoji doors combined with Asian style potted plants and you could even try some exotic knick knacks like geisha girl figures or anything with an Asian look to add some punch to your dining room. Adding more touches such as a beautiful silk kimono hung on the wall can make your room look like it was done by an interior designer.

Flooring can make or break your decor, but if you can not pay for new flooring in your dining room then you can mask your existing floors by using small rugs with an Asian flair. If you are lucky enough to be able to afford new floors, check out dark hardwood floors or bamboo flooring. Accent them with oriental rugs or bamboo mats for an authentic look.

An important factor when decorating your dining room with an Asian inspired look is your wall color. For this look the colors can really enhance the feel - you should consider adding reds and muted tones with contrasting woods either as wallpaper or paint. Try using a deep red paint on the walls, or you might consider a lighter colored paint or wallpaper in plain pattern. You don't have to get too fancy or spend a lot of money and if you don't want color on the walls, you can always cover the walls in a neutral palette and put the color into your flooring and accents.

You don't have to buy a coordinating table and chair set, sideboard, and hutch but the dining room should have plenty of sleek and elegant furniture. To really showcase the Asian theme, try furniture with a black lacquer finish or a quality rattan set.

Archaeological evidence in the site where the very attractive Castle of St Peter now stands allows us to officially date building in Bodrum back to 1100 BC, giving it the status of a truly ancient town. Since those days of antiquity Bodrum has developed both culturally and in size, its history dotted with many fascinating gems such as how it flourished during the time of the Ottoman Empire under the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. The waterfront is exceptional, with striking views of the medieval castle, and numerous wooden sailing boats gulets at anchor. Evenings are particularly special, with the Castle of St Peter illuminated, and frenetic activity on the quayside with guests dining on the gulets and stores being delivered. While over in the city centre, you'll find the Tomb of King Mausolus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, along with Bodrum Castle, a fine example of architecture from the period of the Crusades.

The Museum of Underwater Archaeology is housed with the Castle of St Peter and has many unique exhibits. The Castle itself was founded by the Knights of the Crusades and with work began in the 1400s using materials from the tomb of King Mausolus, it took more than 100 years to complete. The Castle should definitely be on your list of places to visit along with the fabulous Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

Between 377 and 353 BC, King Mausolus ruled Caria which, although he did on behalf of the Persians, was largely independent. His Queen, Artemisia II of Caria, who also happened to be his sister, was devastated on his death in 353 BC and tasked 4 great sculptors; Bryaxis, Scopas, Leochares and Timotheus along with the Greek architects; Satyros and Pythis to build a great tomb / monument to Mausolus. The term Mausoleum was thus founded from what became one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Bodrum amphitheatre is a combination of architecture from Mausolus's time, as well as Roman modifications that were added and is an important structure of a bygone era which is cut into the rocky hillside overlooking Bodrum. It was built during the Carian reign in the Hellenistic age (330 - 30BC) with seating for approximately 13,000. Like all ancient theatres, it is made up of three main parts: the Skene (stage), the Orchestra (half-oval part) and the Cavea audience seating. This theatre is one of the oldest in Asia Minor and dates back to the time of Mausolus. Some of the seats are inscribed with names probably those who had helped to pay for the theatre - just like today! The theatre lies on the Bodrum to Gumbet road and is used for concerts and shows during the high season. It is well preserved and definitely worth a visit.

The ancient city of Ephesus (Turkish: Efes), located near the Aegean Sea in modern day Turkey, was one of the great cities of the Greeks in Asia Minor and home to the Temple of Artemis, another one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Today, the ruins of Ephesus are a major tourist attraction. Ephesus is also a sacred site for Christians due to its association with several biblical figures, including St. Paul, St. John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary.

Turgutreis is situated just 30 minutes west of Bodrum along the coast. Away from the hustle of Bodrum (but not too far if you fancy a day or night out). Turgutreis still has a village atmosphere with a touch of glamour because of the extremely smart marina and surrounding shopping centre. The shopping between Bodrum and Turgutreis is excellent with good furniture shops, hardware, electrical and lighting etc as well as the smart shops in Oasis shopping mall.

Probably the largest public holiday on the French Calendar is National Day or Bastille Day as it is generally famous abroad. The 14th of July remembers the day in 1789 when the French public stormed the Bastille Prison in Paris, an act that was instrumental in fuelling the French Revolution. Bastille Day is widely celebrated in all French cities and Towns with people out in the streets and fireworks displays at night.

November 1st is All Saints Day, a public holiday in France with Catholic genesis. November 11th is a public holiday in France as it commemorates the day Armistice was signed at the end of the First World War.
